Got a neat piece of mahogany at the local lumber shop today - going to
make an all-mahogany mandolin with one-piece top and one-piece back.

The wood is quarter-sawn African Mahogany with unusual ribbon sort of
figure. It's 4/4, about 13" wide and 3' long:

Very nice...although I'd call that figure pretty common for quartered African mahogany (or Sapele, for that matter).Mattia Valente38871.5924768519

That's a nice hunk of wood. I just bought me some nice quartered Hondo Mahogany yesterday, enough for 8 necks. It is nice to get it local when you can. I think it will make a fine mandolin.

The picture doesn't capture it well, but what's uncommon are the dark
mineral streaks (I call them that for lack of a better term). Never seen
anything like it in mahogany, and the board clearly stood out from an
entire bin of quartersawn boards.
